Teeth whitening is one of the most commonly requested cosmetic dental treatments. When performed by a registered dentist, teeth whitening is a safe procedure, and the bleaching agent is safe for teeth and gums. Teeth whitening treatments can provide excellent results. The whitening effect won’t last as long if you smoke or drink red wine, tea or coffee, which can all stain your teeth; however, brushing your teeth twice a day will help reduce the build-up of stains. It is also recommended before you start your whitening treatment and regularly after to see the hygienists to help remove stains and maintain your smile.
At West Green Dental Practice, we offer a choice of both in-practice and at-home whitening options.
Home whitening kit from £350
Step one
First, the dentist will need to see you for a dental exam to check the health of your teeth and gums and make sure they are suitable for whitening. If everything is ok, we will then take impressions of your teeth to create custom-made trays to be used at home.
We will also discuss the current shade of your teeth on our chart and what can be expected to be achieved.
Step two
Once your trays are ready, you will return to the practice to collect them and the bleaching gel to use at home. The trays will be worn for a minimum of three weeks overnight, and you can expect to see results within a few days (providing our instructions are followed.)
Throughout the appointment, your dentist will show you how to use them and check the trays fit correctly and comfortably.

How does it work?
The active ingredient passes through the dental enamel, breaking down stains by chemical oxidation. The process can take some time, so it is essential to finish the treatment as directed by your dentist.
